Labour Youth has voiced its full support for the Dunnes Stores workers on strike today.
National Chairperson of Labour Youth Jack Eustace said: “The poor treatment of workers by Dunnes Stores is nothing short of a disgrace. The striking workers have our full backing and we will be joining them on the picket line in Henry Street, Dublin, Cork City, and elsewhere.
“There is simply no excuse for the level of uncertainty faced by these workers in their hours and their work. Dunnes Stores should do the decent thing and respect their staff’s concerns immediately.
“Labour Youth has been campaigning hard to increase worker security by tackling zero hour contracts and low pay. Without decisive action on a national level, we feel scandalous behaviour like that of the Dunnes Stores management is doomed to be repeated.
“We call on Labour in Government to continue its work and ensure action on low pay and zero hour contracts before the end of the year.’
